A B2B commerce backbone with Pimcore PIM for a 28,000-SKU distributor

A mid-sized distributor supplying industrial components to dealers and contractors in three countries was running commerce and product data out of Magento alone. We put Pimcore in as the single source of product truth and rebuilt the B2B storefront around it.

The situation

The company sells roughly 28,000 SKUs with customer-specific pricing, bulk units, packaging tiers and minimum order rules. All of it lived in Magento attributes and spreadsheets, so every catalogue change was slow, every price list was maintained by hand, and requests for quotation arrived by email and were answered from memory.

The brief was specific: a structured B2B commerce backbone, without the complexity or cost of an enterprise suite.

What we did

Each problem got a structural fix rather than a workaround.

ChallengeWhat we did
Customer-specific pricing managed by handStructured pricing logic managed in Pimcore and pushed to Magento customer groups
Large catalogue with complex attributesCentralised PIM with a normalised data model for bulk units, packaging tiers and MOQ rules
RFQs handled over emailMagento B2B RFQ and quote-approval workflow
Data duplicated across spreadsheets and MagentoPimcore as the single source of truth, with DAM for spec sheets and compliance documents
Slow catalogue updates holding back salesAutomated product sync from Pimcore to Magento over APIs

What we delivered

  • Pimcore PIM implementation for structured product data
  • B2B catalogue model: bulk units, packaging tiers, MOQ rules
  • Magento B2B storefront configuration
  • Customer-group pricing
  • RFQ and quote-approval workflow
  • API-based product synchronisation
  • DAM integration for spec sheets and compliance documents
  • MySQL optimisation and performance tuning

The outcome

Quotes go out faster because the pricing logic is in the system, not in someone's head; product updates reach the storefront the same day; and the data errors that used to surface as wrong orders have largely gone. Customer retention improved as a result.

38%faster quote turnaround
30%faster product updates
45%reduction in product-data errors
